Safeguard Your Trees from Beech Leaf Disease
Beech Leaf Disease (BLD), first discovered in the U.S. in 2012, is spreading quickly through the Northeast and as far south as Virginia, affecting both native and non-native beech trees. In Connecticut, the American beech, which makes up 5% of the forest population, along with European and Oriental beech species, are all vulnerable.
BLD is caused by a microscopic nematode that spreads through wind, insects, and possibly wildlife. These worms feed inside tree buds and introduce a fungal pathogen to the leaves, leading to dark green bands and deformed growth. Infected leaves die and fall prematurely, severely weakening the tree's ability to produce and store nutrients. Without treatment, a beech tree can die in under 10 years.
However, effective treatments are available. Contact us to assess and treat your beech trees before the damage progresses.
